Since 1900, Christmas at Smith College has involved the sending of cards, the singing of carols and the annual Vespers. Wilder, Harris Hawthorne, 1864-1928

Wilder was born in Bangor, Maine on April 7, 1864 to Solon Wilder and Sarah Watkins Smith. He grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from Amherst College in 1886. Wilder then taught biology for three years before going to Freiburg University for the Ph. D. (1891). He came to Smith College in 1892. He founded the Zoology Department at Smith in 1893, did research and published widely. He married a Smith student, Inez Whipple in 1906, who also taught zoology at Smith until her death on April 29, 19...
